Biography:

Derek Innis, CA, is a Partner with MNP’s Winnipeg office. As part of the Taxation Services team, Derek’s focus is Canadian corporate tax planning, primarily to owner-managed businesses.

Derek has over 12 years of experience providing tailored, practical solutions for his clients, whether he is engaged in tax planning for the sale of a business, compensation planning and optimization for owner-managers, estate planning to minimize taxation on death, or helping with Canada Revenue Agency audits and disputes. He is a skilled leader and works closely with each client to understand their circumstances and meet their needs.

Although Derek has experience in a broad range of industries, he is particulary well-versed in manufacturing and agribusiness. He has assisted numerous agricultural operations as well as professionals such as doctors, dentists, investment advisors, pharmacies and architects with tax and estate planning.

Derek was designated a Chartered Accountant (CA) in 2001 after receiving a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba. Active in the community, he has led the annual senior citizens’ tax clinic for several years, filing taxes for low-income seniors free of charge. Derek is also actively involved in internal tax training programs at MNP, working as a tutor and facilitator.
