MNP launches third self-employment training program for Aboriginal entrepreneurs

Calgary, AB – Oct. 25, 2007 - Meyers Norris Penny LLP, in partnership with Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry, is excited to announce the launch of the third fully sponsored Aboriginal Self-Employment Training Program in Calgary, Alberta starting Nov. 5, 2007.

Aboriginal people are starting new businesses at an amazing rate: Over the past 25 years, the number of self-employed Aboriginals has jumped from 7,000 to more than 20,000 - twice the national average growth rate. Getting solid training to help their businesses get off the ground can be a major challenge.

‘‘Our goal is to offset the hurdles faced by new entrepreneurs and to provide Aboriginals with the tools to help them succeed,’’ says Clayton Norris, Director of Aboriginal Services with Meyers Norris Penny in Alberta.

The evening program takes place over 15 weeks and covers topics spanning five core business areas: business and strategic planning; marketing and market research; financial management; operations and risk management; and human resource management. A round table discussion will be held at the end of the training and participants will receive five hours of private consulting time with MNP professionals. There is no cost to participate for qualified candidates.
