For immediate release

Monday, February 9, 2009 – Calgary, AB – Meyers Norris Penny LLP (MNP), a national chartered accountancy and business advisory firm announced its most recent expansion in the Ontario market. The merger unites the Ontario-based insolvency firm, Shiner Kideckel Zweig Inc. (SKZ) with MNP, to offer individuals and mid-market businesses a wider range of advisory services.

“MNP’s insolvency practice has more than 30 years of experience helping individuals and businesses get through financial difficulties,” said Alan Shiner, President at SKZ. “We were looking for a firm that had a strong reputation and experience serving this important client group and we were fortunate to find that with MNP.”

SKZ serves the Greater Toronto Area and central Ontario regions with offices located in Richmond Hill, Barrie, Brampton, Mississauga, North York, Orillia, Scarborough and downtown Toronto. SKZ will begin operating under the MNP name effective March 1, 2009. SKZ offers a full range of financial reorganization services including corporate restructuring, advising and acting on behalf of secured creditors, and personal and corporate bankruptcy and proposal services.

With more than 75 offices across the country, MNP has grown into the 7th largest chartered accounting and business advisory firm in Canada. MNP is also a member of one of the world’s largest professional services networks, Horwath International.

“This is another step to fulfilling our firm’s vision to be the pre-eminent, full-service, mid-market accounting and advisory firm in Canada,” said Paul Dunnett, MNP’s Regional Managing Partner. “As MNP continues to expand further into the eastern market, we will continue to look for like-minded firms such as SKZ, which share our common vision, values and commitment to providing quality services.”

MNP recently entered the Toronto market in June 2008, through a merger with Horwath Orenstein LLP.

“During times of uncertainty, businesses must not only look at the issues affecting their business but learn to identify and act on opportunities as they present themselves,” said Dunnett. “We take this same approach when advising business owners running their businesses. In spite of the difficult economic times, we continue to forge ahead and focus on growing our business. We want to help our clients to do the same.”
