Tuesday, December 20, 2011 – Calgary, AB –Winnipeg-based accounting firm Hemenway Silver will merge with MNP, one of Canada’s largest chartered accounting and consulting firms, effective February 1, 2012. Hemenway Silver said they were looking for an opportunity to expand service offerings for their clients, while MNP wanted to add more resources to better serve the marketplace.
“We are very excited about joining MNP,” said Jerry Griffiths, Partner, Hemenway Silver. “MNP serves numerous industries and specialty groups and understands the markets in which our clients operate. By joining MNP, we can ensure we are delivering enhanced services tailored to our clients’ diverse needs.”
For more than 30 years Hemenway Silver has provided value-added professional services to a diverse and entrepreneurial client base in Winnipeg and surrounding areas. They offer the full spectrum of accounting, tax and consulting services to a variety of corporate clients, with a focus on serving First Nations.
MNP credits its strategic mergers and acquisitions, value-added services, and corporate culture for catapulting the firm to lead with the highest year-over-year growth rates of any of Canada’s top accounting firms for more than five years straight. For four consecutive years, MNP has also been recognized by Maclean’s Magazine as one of the 50 Best Employers in Canada.
“We couldn’t be more pleased about having this exceptional firm join the MNP family. Our corporate culture is very important to MNP and as a result, we have been very strategic about who we invite to join our team,” explained Dan Trotter, MNP’s Regional Managing Partner in Winnipeg. “At MNP, we have a low client and employee turnover and are attracting some of the best professionals in our industry. Bringing in like-minded firms like Hemenway Silver ensures we continue to maintain the corporate culture of our firm, while adding more resources and value-added services to better serve our clients.”
Changing and dynamic market conditions are impacting the way businesses must operate. “In today’s marketplace, it’s important to continually look at new ways to help our clients achieve their goals,” said Arnie Silver, one of the founding Partners of Hemenway Silver. “Joining MNP is a great example of how two firms can come together to provide more resources and services to give all our clients, no matter which industry they operate in, the edge they need to stay competitive and overcome current business challenges.”
Hemenway Silver added that they were equally impressed with MNP’s strong focus on serving First Nations’ clients. For more than 20 years, MNP has partnered with over 200 Aboriginal communities across Canada. In addition to audit, accounting and bookkeeping services, MNP’s Aboriginal specialists assist their clients in a variety of key areas, including business and financial planning; tax planning and recovery; economic development; consulting; governance; land claims support services; strategic and community planning; advocacy; feasibility studies for new enterprises; training solutions; co-management, financial management and third-party management solutions; and more.
“MNP understands the unique needs of their Aboriginal clients and recognizes the role traditional values play in their planning and decision-making process,” said Griffiths. “This was important to us since we have a significant First Nations’ client base. Together, we can deliver even more value to help this important client group continue to prosper.”
The Hemenway Silver team will be moving into MNP’s downtown Winnipeg location at 2500 - 201 Portage Avenue.
