The k’awat’si Economic Development General Partner Corporation (KEDC), has an exciting opportunity for a General Manager to join their well-respected team in Port Hardy, British Columbia.
The KEDC was created in 2014 by the community to grow opportunities and is tasked with creating, operating and supporting businesses that will be lucrative and environmentally feasible while simultaneously respecting the distinctive values of the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw people. Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations (GNN) is a community of just over 915 members. Most members live on the Tsulquate reserve, adjacent to the town of Port Hardy on the North-eastern tip of Vancouver Island. The Port Hardy area is truly remarkable with access to spectacular wilderness adventures including world-class scuba diving, kayaking, caving, surfing, fishing and camping.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the General Manager provides leadership to a team of professionals and is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Nation’s economic development plan. Under the general guidance of the CEO, the General Manager will focus on the ongoing improvement of the organization’s process to ensure maximum communication and efficiency.
The General Manager assists the CEO in working with external partners and stakeholders to ensure opportunities for the community are leveraged in a way that secures its growth and sustainability. She or he will be Indigenous and/or hav First Nations experience with the ability to build relationships across the board all the while developing trust with the community.
Accountable to the Chief Executive Officer, this position requires a community-focused individual who is enthusiastic about the opportunity to shape the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations businesses and lead them towards the future. An experienced and transformational leader, you will have proven abilities to translate strategy to operations, influence and collaborate to inspire a positive, dynamic and evolving work environment.
As the ideal candidate, you will possess a post-secondary education in Business, Economics or Finance with 5 to 8 years’ experience in an increasingly responsible senior leadership role which includes economic development activity such as business development, marketing or a combination of training and experience. Understanding and experience working within First Nation Government is preferred and considered a strong asset. You have experience in a high growth, dynamic organization, and are proven at managing change. You are a strategic thinker with natural leadership skills who provides good mentorship and coaching to the team. In addition, you possess strong relationship building qualities and a commitment to delivering exceptional public service and best practices in public administration. You are comfortable managing many different priorities concurrently, and adept at moving agendas forward in a multi-stakeholder environment. You are known for your ability to develop credibility and effective working relationships with elected officials, employees and external stakeholders.
