National Professional Services Firm, MNP, Bolsters Presence in Brome-Missisquoi

December 13, 2021, CALGARY, AB – MNP, one of the largest national professional services firms in Canada, is pleased to announce that it will join forces with Duke CPA Inc., effective February 1, 2022.

Based in Cowansville, Quebec, Duke CPA is led by three partners (Anita Fowsar, Bill Duke and Geoffrey Webber), all of whom will join MNP as part of the merger. The firm also includes 12 team members and provides a wide range of professional services to organizations throughout the Brome-Missisquoi region. Founded in 1959, Duke CPA has a rich history of helping businesses and organizations in the area, with a fully bilingual team to serve clients in the language of their choice.

MNP has built a strong presence in Quebec since entering the market in 2011 with its first office in Montreal. The firm recently expanded its footprint throughout Quebec, following its acquisition of several Deloitte offices in March 2021. Today, MNP has 21 offices, more than 113 partners and 900 team members across the province.

MNP’s Regional Managing Partner for the Quebec South region, Eric Grondin, said that the merger reflects MNP’s ongoing commitment to investing in the region.

“Brome-Missisquoi is a prosperous and diverse economy with many vibrant communities,” said Grondin. The strength of the manufacturing sector, rich agricultural lands, and the proximity to the U.S. border, has made Cowansville a vitally important part of the region’s economy. We are looking forward to helping more businesses across each of these geographies, and their surrounding areas, reach their full potential. We’ve been looking for opportunities to further our commitment to the region and are very excited to welcome Duke CPA – a firm that shares our values and client-centric approach – into the MNP fold.“

Duke CPA partner, Anita Fowsar, says that the merger strengthens their team’s ability to offer a holistic package of professional services to their existing clients.

“We are particularly excited about MNP’s strong focus on entrepreneurial companies, which is a specific group of people we have exceptional expertise and experience working with” said Fowsar. “MNP complements and enhances our current service offerings for our business community and brings greater bench strength that we believe will help us provide even greater value to our clients across the Brome-Missisquoi region.”

Founded in 1958, MNP has grown to more than 125 locations across Canada and delivers a wide range of professional services and specialized expertise in every sector and area of business. In addition to tax and accounting, MNP delivers a diverse range of consulting and advisory services, including a fast-growing digital transformation practice that helps clients with their digital journey.

While becoming the largest of the mid-market focused firms in Canada, MNP has placed great emphasis on its entrepreneurial culture, constantly looking for like-minded firms and professionals who can help it build on its strategic plans for continued growth.

"We are growing fast but we're absolutely committed to maintaining our culture and so have always been very strategic about who we invite to join our team," explained Jeremy Cole, MNP’s Executive Vice President for the GTA and Quebec. "We are known across the communities we work with as being one of Canada's most-trusted accounting, tax and business consulting firms, so we are excited to welcome a very well-respected practice in Duke CPA into the MNP family. Our cultures and values are well-aligned, and we share the same entrepreneurial, trusted approach to doing business."

William G. Duke, Partner at Duke CPA, emphasized that one of the deciding factors in their decision to join MNP was the culture:

“My father founded Duke CPA over 62 years ago, and it was important to me that we merge with a firm that shared our culture and commitment to client service,” said Duke. “Although MNP is a large, national firm, it’s best known across Canada for its personal, local focus and commitment to being present in and supporting the communities in which its teams live and work. This was incredibly important to me and the team; when you’re making a move as significant as this the ‘fit’ has to be right. We couldn’t be more excited about joining forces with MNP.”
