Derek Malcolm, CPA, CA, CA•IFA, CFE, CFF is a Partner in MNP’s Forensics and Litigation Support Services group. Working out of the Calgary office, Derek delivers forensic accounting, litigation support and dispute analysis services to resolve related business emergencies and disputes across a wide range of industries and all levels of government in Canada and internationally.

Derek has over 40 years of professional experience and has practiced exclusively in forensic and investigative accounting since 1994. In addition to his professional audit, accounting and business advisory experience, he has completed extensive investigative and litigation related assignments including investigating allegations of bribery and corruption, fraud, money laundering and other forms of white collar crime; quantifying losses; providing support for complex financial and business litigation and family law connected matters; preparing expert reports and related testimony and assisting arbitration of contract disputes.

Derek has provided expert testimony in Alberta Provincial Court, Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, the Federal Court (Canada) and the Copyright Board of Canada as well as in mediations and Judicial Dispute Resolution (JDR) proceedings. He has delivered presentations and lectures on fraud and related subjects, money laundering, investigations and forensic accounting for post-secondary institutions, professional associations and law enforcement agencies.

Derek achieved his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in Scotland in 1982 and in Canada in 1986 (CPA 2015). He obtained the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation in 1995 and became a designated specialist in Investigative and Forensic Accounting (CA•IFA) with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2000 and was Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2014.
