This article is reproduced with permission from CPA Alberta Dividends magazine.

Lisa is a leader in forensics, an area in which she has practiced exclusively for nearly 25 years. For fifteen years, she has donated her time to CPA Canada and its predecessor related to Investigative and Forensic Accounting (IFA), first as a board member of the national IFA Alliance, and then as a Canadian representative to both the American Fraud Task Force and the Forensics Education and Quality Committee of the AICPA.

Praised for her generosity and extensive expertise, Lisa also shares her knowledge and time in Indigenous communities. As leader of MNP's Indigenous Services team for Alberta and Canada's North, Lisa was instrumental in developing anti-fraud strategies for First Nations and Indigenous groups across Canada. She also shares her expertise as a notable speaker at events such as the Arctic Indigenous Investment Conference, AICPA Forensic and Valuations North America Conference, and the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association Conferences, and as an expert witness in courts across Canada.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“It is a capital mistake to theorize in advance of the facts. Insensibly, one begins to twist facts to suit theories instead of theories to suit facts” – Sherlock Holmes, a character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

I love this quote because it is so well aligned with the work I do, and the responsibilities we hold as independent forensic investigators.

What values do you live by?

MNP values! Our team values are integrity, entrepreneurship, quality service, diversity, and respect. I believe strongly in our values and these define my practice.

Why is it important for you to give back?

I have been so fortunate to have selected a career and a specialization that has allowed me wonderful opportunities to work with and meet people all over North America and beyond. I want to be helpful to my profession, and to provide my assistance when asked. This is a way of saying thank you for the possibilities that were available to me and all the fun I have had.
