MNP careers are Different by Design. As an entrepreneurial firm, we truly believe there are no limits to where your career can go.
Raised in Eastern Ontario, Krystle’s introduction to accounting happened in the unlikely setting of a high school kitchen. Since then, she has pursued her love of making numbers make sense to people, in between raising a family and enjoying gliding along lake waters in a kayak.
Q: Did you always want to become an accountant?
A: I fell in love with accounting in high school thanks to a great teacher, M. Lalonde. The accounting class only had six students in it, and it was in the cooking classroom which had six workstations. I knew then that I wanted to have a career in accounting.
When time came to apply to university, it was an easy choice for me. I was accepted to the University of Ottawa in the Accounting (Co-op) program. The classes and experience I received through the Co-op program solidified my decision to pursue my CPA designation.
Q: What is your role with MNP?
A: My focus is on small- to medium-sized owner-managed businesses, assisting with everything from year-end financial statements and income taxes, to bookkeeping, tax planning, decision making and everything in between.
I especially love preparing income taxes, both personal and corporate. I was part of the Eastern Ontario tax group prior to my transfer to Brockville. I find it very satisfying to help people and businesses minimize their tax exposure and maximize results.
Q: How would you characterize your professional self?
A: I think most of my clients would say that I’m very approachable and hands on. I love making sure they understand their tax and financial situations, and that they can contact me anytime with questions. I don’t want to be someone they only speak to once a year to file their taxes. I want to hear about their plans for the future – and concerns that keep them up at night.
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
A: I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, who are 8 and 10. We spend a lot of time camping at our seasonal campsite north of Brockville on Graham Lake. It is the perfect spot for swimming, kayaking, reading, board games and campfires!
Q: Since you’re new to the city, are there any local sights or attractions you’re planning to visit?
A: Although Cornwall is less than an hour away from Brockville, we have never visited the Brockville Tunnel. That is definitely something on the to do list. We also look forward to exploring the waterfront and trying out all the local restaurants.
Finish this sentence: If I had to pick my favourite pandemic activity, it would be . . . Movie nights with the family, complete with our new projector, lots of popcorn and wine for mom!
