MNP careers are Different by Design. As an entrepreneurial firm, we truly believe there are no limits to where your career can go.
Please join us in congratulating Lisa Majeau Gordon, who was recently recognized as Investigative and Forensic Accounting Expert of the Year at the 2020 Women in Finance Awards. This honour is the culmination of nearly 25 years’ committed service to her profession and underscores Lisa’s unrelenting focus on client service and professional growth.
Her deep knowledge and insight as a forensic accountant provide significant value to her clients and fellow Business Advisors alike. Lisa is frequently called on to provide expert insight into extremely complex and contentious cases — and her leadership has helped build MNP into one of Canada’s largest and most trusted forensic accounting and litigation support practices.
Lisa is known for her integrity, keen eye for detail, and relentless drive to improve. These qualities have positioned her as a national leader in forensic accounting, set an outstanding benchmark for all in her field to aspire to, and were all contributing factors in her receiving this award.
As National Leader of MNP’s Forensic and Litigation Support Services team, Lisa helps clients with preventing and detecting fraud and navigating financial disputes and working quickly to resolve them. This includes performing investigations, dissecting financial disputes, addressing corruption, providing litigation support and assisting with regulatory compliance, among other services.
Lisa is driven by the challenge of finding truth and solutions to complex financial disputes and allegations of wrongdoing — a passion sparked early in her career while providing forensic accounting services to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). For nearly a decade, she applied her accounting skills to investigating organized crime, terrorist financing and other serious financial crime cases across Canada.
Her law enforcement connections continue, as she is currently the principal forensic accountant for the Toronto Police Services in Ontario.
Lisa notes the ultimate duty of a financial investigator is to the Courts to ensure the outcome of their work is reliable, accurate and defensible.
“Forensic accountants do not advocate for anyone – we are not hired guns,” she says. “Always telling the truth as we see it, regardless if it benefits your client or not, is very important to maintaining the integrity in the work that we do, and its reliability.”
That focus on the facts is part of the legacy Lisa wants to leave; helping train the next generation to be skilled and scrutinous forensic accountants who consider quality and ethics to be paramount.
Lisa has represented Canada on the American Fraud Task Force. She lectures across Canada and in the United States on forensic accounting, fraud risk management, investigations, expert reporting and privacy matters.
Lisa is a Chartered Accountant (CA), qualifying as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), is certified as a Specialist in Forensic and Investigative Accounting (CA·IFA) and in Financial Forensics (CFF) in the U.S. She was designated a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA, FCA), the profession’s highest honour, in 2020. She is involved in forensic professional education in Canada and the United States, and attended Harvard Business School in 2018.
