YYC Tech Gives raises more than $220 thousand for Calgary Food Bank

Calgary fundraising cohort helped CBC top its $1 million Blitz Day target

The Calgary Food Bank is entering the 2020 holiday season with a much-needed $1.1 million leg up thanks in no small part to CBC Calgary and our city’s trademark magnanimity. The station announced the jaw-dropping total during the Homestretch on Thursday, December 18, to put an exclamation point on what was already a wildly successful 35th annual Blitz Day fundraising drive.

This is incredible news given both the increased demand and logistical costs the charity is facing because of COVID-19, and the economic challenges many Calgarians are experiencing this year.

Contributing more than $200,000 to the final tally was YYC Tech Gives, a collaborative of Calgary-based Technology companies which MNP has been honored to partner with for the past two years. To date, the organization has raised more than $1.5 million for the Calgary Food Bank.

“What an engaging and exciting group of businesses and leaders to team up with,” says Trevor Winkler, MNP’s Regional Managing Partner for Calgary. “Coupling our team’s passion for supporting the Calgary community with YYC Tech Give’s passion for supporting the Food Bank has certainly contributed to us raising more than $50,000 this year.”

As a firm, we would like to extend our sincerest thank you to CBC, YYC Tech Gives, our community, clients, team members, and families for giving us all something to celebrate this holiday season. Its heartening to see the spirit of generosity is still alive and well at a time when so many other traditions seem in doubt.
