WINNIPEG, SEPTEMBER 8, 2008 -- Voter eligibility criteria for the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) 2008 director elections is now available, as announced by chartered accounting and business advisory firm, Meyers Norris Penny LLP (MNP).
“This year, new options have been added to make it easier for producers to establish their eligibility to vote,” said election coordinator Ian Craven with MNP.
Actual producers in CWB Districts 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 who produced any of the seven major grains in 2007-08 or 2008-09 are eligible to vote, along with those entitled to a share of that grain. The major grains are wheat, oats, barley, rye, flax, canola and rapeseed.
Those who delivered to the CWB this year or last are automatically on the voters’ list and have been sent a voter confirmation package. “If the information is correct in these mailings, producers don’t have to do anything but wait for their ballot to arrive in the mail,” said Craven. “If they do need to make changes, they can simply note the changes on the letter and mail it back to us before October 10, 2008.”
Other farmers can establish their eligibility to vote by completing and submitting an “Application to Vote” form with a statutory declaration, as per previous CWB elections. Alternatively, a new option for this year is that any of the following can accompany the form to validate eligibility, in place of a statutory declaration:
Producers can inquire as to whether they are included on the preliminary voters list by calling the MNP toll-free election number at 1.877.500.0795. Signed “Application to Vote” forms must be mailed or faxed to the Election Coordinator along with supporting documentation for receipt no later than 5 p.m. Central Time (CT) on November 14, 2008 at:
