2026 Federal Economic Update Highlights
Minister of Finance and National Revenue, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, tabled the federal government’s 2026 Spring Economic Update on April 28, 2026. Highlights include:
- The $10 million capital gains exemption on sales of shares to employee ownership trusts made permanent
- Expansion of the Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) investment tax credit to include carbon storage through Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)
- Several administrative changes to help simplify access to the Disability Tax Credit
- Confirmation of the government’s intention to proceed with various previously announced tax measures

Am Lidder FCPA, FCA
Senior Vice President, Tax Services
Amanjit (Am) is MNP’s Senior Vice President, Tax Services. As the leader of MNP’s Tax Services and a member of the firm’s management team, she is responsible for the strategic direction, guidance, and leadership of the national tax service line across the firm. Within her role as Senior Vice President, Tax Services, Am chairs MNP’s Tax Executive Committee. She is also a member of the firm’s Compensation Committee.
In her previous role as the firm’s Regional Tax Leader, Am provided a wide range of tax planning and compliance services to mid-sized organizations and their shareholders. Working one-on-one with clients, she delivered effective advice and strategies for corporate and personal tax planning, estate and succession planning and corporate reorganizations, as well as merger and acquisition planning.
Am is often included as a tax expert in House of Commons Standing Committee of Finance and Standing Senate Committee on National Finance hearings. She has presented at many tax conferences hosted by CPA Canada, the Canadian Tax Foundation, and Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. Am previously served on the CPA Canada Education Committee, Advisory and Planning Committee for CPA Canada’s National Conference on Income Taxes, and Canadian Tax Foundation British Columbia Tax Conference Program Committee. Am is an active member of CPA Canada’s Tax Advisory Committee.
Am earned a Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) from the University of Northern British Columbia in 1998. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CA) in 2001. In 2023, Am was awarded the fellowship designation (FCPA, FCA) for her outstanding commitment to her profession and community.
