Meet Adam, a Manager with our Assurance and Accounting team in Montreal. Learn more about how he decided to join the accounting world and how MNP allows him to bridge his career to his passion for community building.

1. What has been your accounting journey?

I have always had a passion for business and felt that developing a strong understanding of accounting and tax was a fundamental tool for operating a business. When I decided to study accounting, it was originally for me to obtain an education on the language of business that I could use in my eventual career as an entrepreneur. After completing my summer internship with MNP, I realized that this profession allowed me to apply that love for business every day, by working with owner-managed businesses to assist them in achieving their personal and business goals.

2. As a manager at MNP, what is your role with clients?

My role with clients is to act as their trusted business advisor by providing a wide range of assurance, accounting, tax, and business consulting services. I provide day-to-day support to owners and their team, and act as a liaison between the client and any MNP speciality service for which they may need to work with. No question or project is too big or small, and my role is to ensure we work hand-in-hand with our clients, so their objectives are met. Whether they engage MNP for the preparation of financial statements, bookkeeping services, or a consulting mandate, providing excellent quality client service is always at the forefront.

3. Community is important to you. How do you integrate that into your career?

Being an active member in my community has been a core value entrenched in me from a young age by both of my parents and I have always looked for various ways to give back. I am currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Just for Kids Foundation, which raises funds to purchase high-priority medical equipment, and to support initiatives that improve the quality of care for patients of the Montreal Children’s Hospital. This is one of the things that drew me to MNP originally, — MNP values their communities and encourages their team members to make a difference.

4. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt since starting your accounting career?

The biggest lesson I have learned is that the modern-day accountant is not the stereotypical number cruncher that provides their clients with only a financial statement and tax return. We communicate the story behind the numbers and play an integral role in writing the future chapters of our clients and their businesses stories. The accountant of today, and tomorrow, needs to have a hands-on approach and an in-depth understanding of their client’s business, the economic and socioeconomic factors that influence it, and how technology can be leveraged so their systems and processes do not become obsolete. We are there as an additional set of eyes and ears for our client’s business, and this is what I love about my job and profession.
