Get to know Eric Sunbulian
Eric Sunbulian doesn’t just think strategically — he lives it. Whether he’s navigating complex M&A (mergers and acquisitions) transactions, cycling rugged mountain trails, or building furniture from scratch, Eric brings focus, discipline, and a deep respect for the long game.
Eric joined MNP’s Corporate Finance team in March 2025, bringing a sharp eye for opportunity and a deep respect for what’s at stake when business owners make bold moves. As a Director specializing in M&A, he helps clients across Toronto and beyond explore their next chapter — growth, transition or complete reinvention.
What’s your focus at MNP, and how do you help clients?
I work with clients on both sides of the deal — whether they’re selling a business they’ve built from the ground up or looking to grow through acquisition. I help guide them through what’s often one of the most personal and complex decisions of their professional lives.
It’s about preserving the legacy they’ve built, maximizing value, and making sure every move aligns with their vision. Whether they need capital, strategic advice, or support during negotiations, my goal is to make the process clear, collaborative, and confidence-driven.
What drew you to M&A in the first place
M&A is the perfect mix of technical strategy and personal insight. No two companies are the same. Which means no two deals should be either. I love that it requires continuous learning and a tailored approach for every client.
I’ve always gravitated toward the mid-market space, where you often work directly with entrepreneurs or management teams who’ve put everything into their business. For them, every decision has real impact. Not just on numbers, but on families, teams, and futures. That’s what makes the work meaningful.
When should people reach out to you?
Anytime, especially when thinking about growth, transition, or capital, even a casual conversation can uncover opportunities that haven’t been explored yet. Where do you see your business in the next few years, and how will you get there? Or maybe you’ve started having conversations about what your business is worth, or even recently approached by a competitor or investor.
Whether it’s succession planning, acquisition, divestiture, or financing — the earlier we talk, the more value we can unlock together.
Outside of work, who are you?
First and foremost, I’m a dad. My daughter keeps me busy with all kinds of adventures. We often play, learn, negotiate (she’s pretty sharp), or spend time outdoors together. We also love to travel as a family.
I’m big on cycling. Last year, I did a self-supported ride from Merritt to Trail through the B.C. interior. Next up? Tackling the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route from Banff to the Mexico border, spread out over a few years. When I’m not on two wheels, I like to unwind by woodworking or learning to play the Bouzouki, a Greek string instrument I may or may not master by 2050.
Where’s your favourite place in the world?
Greece. You’ll likely find me there every August. It’s where I recharge and reconnect.
What’s an experience that shaped how you approach life and work?
Growing up, I had the opportunity to watch my father build his own business from the ground up. He was an entrepreneur who worked incredibly hard — long hours, seven days a week — and built a respected brand through sheer persistence. He took me to work with him every Saturday during the school year and every day during summer breaks, and those experiences left a lasting impression. I saw firsthand the level of commitment, resilience, and personal investment required to build something meaningful.
From an early age, he instilled in me the values of hard work, honesty, and integrity. That foundation continues to shape how I operate today — whether it’s committing fully to my clients, collaborating with colleagues, or building trusted relationships, all while staying grounded in my values regardless of the circumstances.
