Get to know Jesse Unke

Jesse Unke

Jesse Unke has always had an eye for how things work and a drive to make them better. As a Partner at MNP, he leads a consulting practice that helps clients bring capital and infrastructure/utility projects to life. From early planning and design to construction and closeout, Jesse is someone clients rely on when the details are complex and the outcomes really matter.

He brings that same focus to everything he does, whether he’s at the gym, rebuilding a car, or tackling a Sunday morning hike up the North Shore Mountains. Curious, grounded, and quietly driven, Jesse leads by example and helps others succeed by staying steady under pressure. Here’s a closer look at what motivates him, both in and out of the office.

What led you to civil engineering?

I’ve always been interested in how things work. Math and physics came naturally to me, so engineering felt like a good fit. I chose civil engineering because I saw how much infrastructure needs to be renewed or replaced, and I wanted to be part of that solution.

What’s your role at MNP?

I lead our Capital Projects and Infrastructure Consulting Practice. We support clients through every stage of capital, infrastructure, and utility projects — including Indigenous Nations, municipalities, regional districts, public agencies, and construction firms. No matter the client, our goal is to help deliver the project successfully and with confidence.

What exactly does this mean?

It means acting as an extension of the client’s team. Some organizations don’t have the capacity or in-house expertise to manage projects on their own. That’s where we step in. We oversee the work, manage risk, and make sure the client’s priorities stay front and centre. It’s about helping them make informed decisions and avoid costly missteps along the way.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I’ve been into cars and motorcycles for as long as I can remember. I started flipping lowriders when I was 16, and that helped pay for my post-secondary education. These days, I still enjoy working on cars and riding sport bikes when I have the time. I’m also a certified personal trainer and keep a regular routine — five days a week at the gym, yoga once a week, and a Sunday morning hike up Grouse Mountain. The hike has become a great way to reset and connect with people in my network.

What’s something people might not expect about you?

Probably the lowrider background. Or the fact that I’ll be halfway up Grouse Mountain before most people have had their morning coffee. I thrive with structure and consistency, both in my personal life and in my work. Clients appreciate that I bring that mindset to every project, especially when there’s a lot going on.
