Get to Know Patrick Boudreau

""

On November 1, 2020, MNP merged with Boudreau Albert Savoie & Associates in Dieppe, New Brunswick. We sat down with one of the office’s three partners to get to know more about him and how our Dieppe location helps local business owners.

Did you always want to become an accountant?

My father was the general manager and part owner of a fish processing plant in Northern New Brunswick and I always wanted to be a businessman like him. When I went to the University of Moncton, I started my major in finance with the goal of owning a business one day. After talking with accounting professors and friends, I made the decision to major in accounting instead as I believed it might be a better path to achieving my goals. After getting my Chartered Accountant designation and working in auditing for five years, I decided to do the In-depth Tax Course to focus my career in tax. The idea of being a business owner never left my mind, so when I joined Boudreau Albert Savoie & Associates I really enjoyed the opportunities to help manage and grow the practice.

What do you like about tax advisory?

The main reason I come to work every morning is to help clients with their businesses. I really enjoy helping people grow their businesses and helping them navigate through the various tax laws and regulations. I feel a sense of pride when I can help them save tax, increase their bottom line, or bring their business to the next level.

How would you describe how you work with your clients?

For me, clients always come first. Being responsive and willing to help my clients has helped us and our clients grow so much over the past years.

Is there a specific niche you like to focus on?

We’re a small office so I provide tax advice and solutions to all kinds of clients. But I’ve been working a lot lately with client in the construction and fishing industry. I also have a lot of real estate clients, as well as professionals like doctors, dentists and lawyers.

What are you envisioning in terms of your future with the firm?

We’ll continue to grow the tax, consulting and assurance practice here in Dieppe. We also want to attract new clients and keep helping businesses with their tax and consulting needs. One of the reasons we joined MNP was to attract new talent and I’ve been working hard to mentor people. Because our office is relatively small, new team members have the opportunity to work with diverse clients in a broad range of industries with the backup of nationwide team, so that’s quite an opportunity.

What do you do when you’re not working?

I spend time with my wife and three kids and love coaching hockey. I also enjoy boating and playing sports.
