Get to know Rob Larkin

As an avid musician, you might be surprised to learn Rob Larkin’s career path led him to be an accountant. But his love of music and numbers are two of the joys in life that bring him great satisfaction. Rob joined MNP at the beginning of the CPA program in 2019, gaining valuable experience working in various areas in the firm, from private enterprise and tax compliance to our audit and assurance practice. Fast forward two years, and in the fall of 2021, he accepted the challenge to help lead MNP’s ease cloud accounting and bookkeeping team.

Today, he is passionate about helping his clients simplify their accounting and bookkeeping needs with the help of MNP’s ease. And when he’s not doing that, you may just find him following the beat of his other drum at one of the local Okanagan musical hot spots.

In your opinion, what is the most valuable thing about MNPs ease services?

Bookkeeping really does take its toll on some business owners, and many times leads to frustration and anxiety when it’s neglected. No one wants to be dealing with a messy set of books at the end of the year. MNP’s ease cloud accounting and bookkeeping solutions automate day-to-day finance tasks, reducing the paperwork you have to do. And because it’s on the cloud, you can access it any time, any where. Having timely financial data can add a lot of value for business owners when they are making strategic decisions. Whether you are deciding to purchase a piece of equipment or a building, or to hire a new salesperson, having the right information at the right time can provide business owners with the tools they need to run a successful business.

Can you share a story about how ease services have helped a client?

One of the benefits of outsourcing bookkeeping is the ability to help business owners transition through different stages of their own life. I recently worked with a small business owned by a married couple, whose bookkeeping was all being done by one of the partners. They had been stressed about how they can transition to a lighter workload and get away from the computer as they approach retirement. We transitioned them over to our cloud accounting services, which has allowed the couple to take a step back from some of their administrative tasks, while still being able to keep a pulse on the business financials.

How would you characterize your approach to helping clients?

My goal in accounting is to help clients navigate at least one part of their business. Nothing is straight forward these days, and we all need help from experts at times. When a client calls me, they are looking for advice and are trying to solve a problem, and I enjoy helping them find the solution.

Can you tell us more about being a musician?

I am a drummer in a band called Sad Tom and The Noodles, and spend many hours writing, practicing, recording and performing. I love performing live music. I find it a fun way to engage the local community, and to bring people together. Throughout the year you’ll find my band and I performing at several places throughout the Okanagan, and maybe even beyond.
